1.恰巧: by chance; happen to
他出去散步時﹐恰巧開始下雨了。
他去買菜時﹐恰巧看到他的好朋友。
2.只好: have to
*"只好" is used to indicate there is no other choice.
媽媽不在家﹐他只好自己煮飯。
飛機票都賣完了﹐我們只好在家裡過聖誕節。
3."不是。。。就是" either...or; if not A...then B
*"不是。。。就是" denotes a choice between two possibilities.
你不是在看電視﹐就是在看電腦。
小狗不是在叫﹐就是在跑來跑去。
4.除了。。。以外 besides; apart from
*"除了。。。以外" indicates an exception when it is followed by "都" in
the second clause, but when it is followed by "還" or "也", it is equivalent
to "in addition to" or "besides" in English.
那個新學生除了他的姐姐以外﹐都不認是這裡的學生。
除了跑步以外﹐我喜歡做蛋糕。
5.卻 but
*"卻" is often used after the subject of the second clause of a sentence.
Like "可以" or "但是" it indicates a contrastive situation, but is used
more often in writing.
這個餐廳這麼大﹐卻沒有幾個人。
他從大陸來的﹐卻不會寫中文。
6.即使。。。也/還是 even if
*"即使。。。還是" is used with "也/還是" to express a hypothetical situation
or concession.
即使他快沒有錢了﹐他也要每天去買新衣服。
即使他有很多錢﹐他也不會高興﹐因為他沒有朋友。
7."大都" & "大多數" most of; mostly
*"大都" is an adverb. It can only be followed by a verb, adjective, or "是
". It cannot be followed by nouns. "大多數" can be followed by a verb, adjective,
or "是". It can also be followed by nouns.
這裡大多數的人我都認識。
這裡的人大都是從美國來的。
