The soldiers were chasing their enemy, and they got lost in the desert. They were scared and tired. But then, one of the men suggested that they let their old horses lead the way. Surely enough, the horses led them out of the desert and to their destination. The message of this is that the eldest and most experienced people are the most wise.

Cultural story:
The "Nian" monster:
Once upon a time, there was a monster called "Nian" who had the body of
a bull and the head of a lion. It was very vicious, and during the winter,
when there was no food left, it would attack the villages. This caused the
villagers a lot of anxiety. Soon enough, though, they became aware of Nian's
three weaknesses: loud noises, fire, and the color scarlet. One year, the
villagers decided that when the Nian came, they would have a fire in front
of every house, hang a scarlet board in front of every house, and make loud
noises.
One night, they saw Nian coming toward the village, so they started their
fires, hung up the boards, and made loud noises by chopping vegetables and
setting off firecrackers. Nian was scared, and ran back into the mountains.
He was never seen in the village again. The villagers were very happy, and
they had a celebration. This is how the tradition of "guonian" began.
